If you've visited any of my project pages, you probably saw something like, "Version: 2.1-B.2," but what do all of those numbers and letters actually stand for? Well, to enrich my Posts page, I decided to write a post explaining just that!
Red: The primary and most significant version ID of the project. Only updated on complete project rebuilds.
Blue: The second-most important version ID of the project. Reserved for big updates, but not as big as red.
Orange: A median version ID of the project. Changed for updates that address specific aspects of a project.
Purple: The least important version ID. Usually used for small things, like slight styling changes or textual updates.
And that is basically it, simple as that! The reason I chose to go with this custom formatting as opposed to something more common, like "v2.3.0.2" or "v2.3.02," or some other variation of those two, is because I find them kind of cluttered and annoying to keep track of. By dividing the two most important IDs apart from the two least important IDs with a hyphen and then dividing the individual IDs with a dot, I essentially ensured a neat and clean view of the project version, as well as an easier time actually understanding the version itself, with this post hopefully aiding in that purpose.
Either way, that basically wraps this post up, as I've covered everything I've wanted to go over. Until next time, cheers! :3
